Hi All,
My XP Pro SP2 - SP3 , Locks up , when Starting , it gets to the stage when Firing up the Desktop and Task Bar Etc.

I have Zeroed it down  in MSCONFIG \Service Tab to...... If "Windows Audio"  and "Plug and Play"..... if They are BOTH  Enabled at the Same time.

  (1)  If I Enable Widows Audio  and Disable  Plug and Play.... everything works OK ,except I have No Printer....and also when Opening the "Browse" in Paint Shop Pro , ,

I get an error Message " Server Busy
This action can't be completed because other program is busy,
Choose  switch to  and go to the Busy Program and correct program
.

After I click "Switch To" ... it goes to "Start Menu" .   I retry the "Retry"  option on the Errror message, ? Doz times and after 30 seconds or so , the Browse Images will open .

      (2)     If I Disable Widows Audio  and Enable  Plug and Play.... everything works OK ,........ Except I have NO SOUND

I have spent days , trying to get this sorted, I have done Repair installs with the Genuine OS Cd , I have run Memtests,  I have Run Virus Checks, I have Run all Updates ,

Everything was working OK until a Few Days  ago,

Can Somebody Please Help me, ...............  I know a little about PCs but am no Geek.

  Thanks in advance Ron.

Number One:
You should not use MSCONFIG to modify your service settings, use "services.msc" instead.
Number Two:
You should never disable the Plug and Play service.

OK. With that said, have you ensured that all of your drivers are up to date? Since SP3 has recently been released, an issue with your particular hardware that if fixed with updated drivers could solve the issue. I am not talking Windows Update drivers either... Namely sound in this case.
