ibm t30 can't see external drives

Hi new to here so be gentle :D  just bought a T30 on ebay and I am liking it a lot running service pack 2 xp pro  . 512k ram
Strange problem though When I plug in usb drives  my computer will not see them even though safely remove hardware and easy eject both do any suggestions how to go about fixing this ?

Welcome to the forum goonerob.

If you plug a USB into any port it`s not seen at all ?

IBM troubleshooting T30.

1. Check Device Manager for any "yellow !" next to the USB.
If you have ! next to the USB you may need to find and install the USB mother board driver.

2. Look in the BIOS and make sure the USB ports are enabled.

I  have seen in the past that when a power supply starts to go the USB ports are the
first things that stop working properly.
Also I have found that if logical disk manager is not set to manual or automatic
you will not find new devices like jump drives.

Is this a Hard drive and is it formated or a flash memory stick ?
Does this USB device work in another pc ?

thought I should let you all know so you can have a good laugh got the whole thing working properly and  had the laptop stolen the next day:)
