Thanks! It works like a charm.
I'm having a Asus P4S533-E with no SATA-controllers, so I have a Promise SATA150 TXplus controller PCI-card to control my two SATA discs. Windows XP SP3 setup disc does not support SATA-controllers natively, but this guide handles that.

Burning to disc
  1. Start up ImgBurn. When started you will be presented with a menu. Select Create image file from files/folders.
Isn't it "Write files/folders to disc" and not "Create image file from files/folders"?

You're welcome!

Yes, you are correct. Thanks for pointing that out! I have updated the guide. I am so used to creating image files first to test them for functionality in a virtual machine and when I was making the guide, I was trying to write each step as I did it, so the guide would be as accurate as possible.

Whoa, this is gonna make my XP installations alot easier!
Not that it was too much trouble before, I can always grab that old floppy drive lying around somewhere.

I'm wondering though, 'cause there's a driver pack for AMD's K8 series CPUs (http://driverpacks.net/DriverPacks/DriverPack.php?pag=cp)
What exactly are they for? ???
I have two K8 series CPUs (Athlon 64 3000+ & Athlon 64 x2 3800+) and I never downloaded these kind of drivers before, I usually just run the standard XP Pro SP2 disc with S-ATA drivers on a floppy.

Thanks for any help :)

I would question any driver downloaded from anywhere except the original manufactures web site (in this case, amd.com).
I have never specifically installing any "CPU" driver for any of my systems... Intel only provides a "processor identification utility" based on the generation of CPU and OS installed, not a driver for the CPU itself.
AMD could be a different ballgame, but I have never heard of installing any CPU driver for them, regardless of generation or capabilities, either.

Note:  Only download and slipstream the Mass Storage drivers. This will ensure that the installation remains stable. Adding all the other driver packs could cause you headaches later on. All the rest of the drivers can and should be installed manually.

I fully agree :).

Those AMD drivers are just updates to the Windows XP drivers. I don't recommend slipstreaming all the driverpacks or more than the mass storage due to stability issues. I myself have had issues with just the mass storage drivers using a Silicon Image 680 ATA/133 contoller. The drivers that were bundled in the driverpack were a newer version than what came with the card but they would cause a BSOD on boot after a Windows XP installation was finished. I ended up manually adding the old drivers to the driverpack which worked fine. You also have to realize that not all hardware may be correctly detected with all those drivers and a similar but non functioning driver may be installed instead of the correct one. I assume most people are not going to have trouble by using just the mass storage driverpack by itself.

Is it possible to add just the drivers you need instead of the whole pack?
I have a zip file with the drivers I need, just not sure what to do with it.

Drivers
Link 1 - Drivers at RapidShare
Link 2 - MediaFire (not sure if it's working or not)
In case you want to take a look at the files...

If you want to send someone a link for a file don't do it in a post on the forum. Send them a PM with their permission.

I have downloaded your file and modified the mass storage driver pack so it contains just the driver you specified. Download the original driverpack and compare it against my modified one. You'll see it is very easy to make modifications to the driverpack.

Check you PM for download link to the modified driverpack. Let me know if you run into any issues.

You don't need to worry about SP1 at all. I would recommend you slipstream SP2 and then SP3 right after it. The instructions for slipstreaming SP2 are the same as SP3, so just follow those instructions replacing SP2 for SP3.

Thanks IH8U for a most useful - and literate - tutorial. Your piece has made it easier to run yesterday's software on to-day's hardware--s-p-e-e-d!!!

Re burning OS CDs:
Burn them at no more than about 16x. OS installers don't like running on CDs burned at high speeds. As well, do a simulated burn to test your burner/disc brand combo at 16x to avoid burning coasters.

Thanks for the posting! U rock! This has helped me so much! One question that I do have is would this be the same installation for 64 bit? It has worked everytime on 32 machines but I have a 64 bit one and its giving me trouble. I keep getting a "Hard Error" right before it gets into the Windows installation interface. Would it make a difference if it is a 64 or 32 bit XP disc? Or the instructions set up for 32? So lost  ???

This method only works for 32 bit. :(   If you can provide me with a link to a driver for the 64 bit controller I can try to make you a custom 64 bit driverpack, but there is no guarantee it will work.
