Windows XP SP2 Terminal Services
« on: October 27, 2007, 08:39:30 AM »
BV, I reinstalled Windows XP SP2 recently and noticed that my "Fast User Switching" was not working. I checked on Terminal Services and they were not even located in Services. I have installed all necessary programs from the XP CD and I have run sfc/scannow in case I have some missing files. I noticed your defaut entries for Terminal Services on your web page. The only two entries in my registry for Terminal Services are the "Image Path" and "Default". Can I safely add all your "default entries" and get my Terminal Services to work?

The listing that I have and available for download for default does not include all keys. Several not listed/included could be computer specific.

Check the Event Log (Event Viewer) and see if anything in there looks strange (errors).

Off the top of my head, I do not know of a quick way to get TS back on its own.

You can try booting from the XP CD and select the repair option, with the understanding that I used it only once to repair a services issue (back in the day when it was much easier to break them) and this was not the issue it repaired.

BV, doesn't the "Windows Repair" strip out the SP2. I mainly want my "Services" back for "fast user switching" since I start a download and can't switch to the kids logins, so they come along and have to reboot and kill my download. Thanks.

BV, looking at another install, I would feel comfortable putting your keys in the registry to get back my "services". Do you think it is possible to restore them doing this? Thanks.
