XP Pro sp2 / Services question
« on: October 23, 2007, 03:51:13 AM »
First of all , it is great to see ya back in action BV , you and your
services are a great help and were dearly missed... Thank God  Major Geeks
mirrored some of your stuff while away or it would have been worse.

My question , I run XP Pro sp2 , I have always used your reg tweaks
'safe' for my PC , but not long ago I networked 2 PC together , I really
want to go back to useing the tweak but I am affraid it may disable
something I need for the networking and then for me to try to figure
out what it was would really stink.

Is there a tweak for this that I would have no worries , or would it be
possible for you to tell me what I may need to REenable after useing the
XP Pro ' Safe ' tweak ??

Thanx alot and again , good to have ya back!

Edit:. I forgot to mention , the 2 PC's are not only networked
but also run ICS.

Also I apologize if this should have been in the 'Windows XP Technical Support'
area... If so feel free to move , and sorry for the trouble.

"Safe" should work for you just fine.

Just added nfo for anyone else. After useing the !SafeProAllstart.reg
I did/had to reenable the following services.

Automatic Updates
C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs
+ To get updates From MS

Background Intelligent Transfer Service
C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs
+ To get updates From MS

Fast User Switching Compatibility
C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs
+ Something with my firewall there ( comodo ) unsure what tho'

Unsure if I needed this last one enabled but I did after reading the description

Server
C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs
*Supports file, print, and named-pipe sharing over the network for this computer. If this service is stopped, these functions will be unavailable. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start.

Everything works fine , Thanks Again!

The "!SafeProAllstart.reg" was for SP1a because my SP2 reg files are named differently, however, that file also has Automatic Updates set to Auto, so not sure why you needed to re-enable it. BITS was a different story, though.

Gives me a good reason to remove them and not keep them available for download. :)

Edit: Typo

I love them BV , they are great work and easy to use.. I used to do it
manually , took forever , now it is done in a click... Brilliant IMHO.

Thanx , I appreciate them.
