Barebones config for gaming?
« on: April 04, 2008, 03:29:13 PM »
Will barebones config work even better than power user for offline gaming? I don't game online very often. I see it's recommended  to leave System Restore Service  on Automatic. Why is this?

The answer would be "depends."
How much memory do you have and are using for what ever game you play?
System Restore Service is recommended to automatic as several people have told me they use it.
Personally, I do not as I feel it is easier to just install clean. :)

I have 3.2 gigs of memory readable + the 512 on my video card. I have setup a gamer profile at bootup for reduced services as is recommended. Can I customize this gamer profile for more than just just disabling services such as display settings- optimize for "performance" and disabling pagefile?
I have found that at task manager, I can stop explorer which disables all menus and then start game with run command. Is this worth doing for  more gaming performance? Or will it make no difference since I have so much memory already on a 32bit xp system?
  Thanks BV, you rock

Reducing the services further with that amount of memory would not gain you any additional performance as you probably have sufficient memory for what ever game you are playing (at least for now).
