BV,

You page says on Vista Ultimate, this service is set to "Manual" by default. On my Vista Ultimate installs, it's set to "Automatic". Not sure if this was a change in SP1 or not. ???

The real question I have is, does this service really need to be running?

If you examine what BV says about this service:
------------------------------------------------------------
This service may be set to Automatic by default if the system that Vista was installed upon has an internal wireless card. WLAN AutoConfig, if set to Manual, will not start automaticly if you use a hardware switch (such as those on laptops to turn on and off the wireless network card). If you require wireless connectivity on your computer, keep the listed services above on the default values as well as place WLAN AutoConfig into Automatic. If you do not have a wireless card installed on the system, or do not require authentication on your wired network card, the group of services can safely be disabled.
-------------------------------------------------------------
you will see that it is only necessary if you have a wireless card.

I have a problem with this service, as are many others. When gaming online using a wireless connection I get a spike lag for 1-2 seconds every 60 seconds exactly. On XP the service was called Wireless Zero Configuration Service (WZC) and was easily fixed by disabling it, but you cannot disable it in Vista, now that the service is called WLAN AutoConfig, without losing the entire connection. How do I resolve this issue?
I don't necessarily demand that you should come up with a way to disable the service and still be connected. There could be other solutions as well(?). Such as installing a 3rd party program or reconfigure something.. I dunno. Any solution to the lag problem is greatly appreciated!!!! :)

I've tried the following and nothing helped:
- Using the WLAN Optimizer
- Using the Vista Anti-Lag

And using a cable instead is not an option, unfortunately.

Thanks,
Jonas G. Stensgaard.
