Hi,

First of all, nice site.

Second, after my SP1 installation a while ago, I started to see error 1048 on every startup: http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/library/ea3d8dcd-acac-476d-aafe-8c0ee51588eb1033.mspx?mfr=true

This is most annoyng, do you know what is causing it? How do I get rid of this?


I'm using Vista 32-bit Premium, and I have Terminal Services, Terminal Services Configuration and the checkbox on the Remote tab of the System properties all disabled.

Hi,

I was looking at your service configuration for Vista and the recommendation for the terminal services, you say that windows search 4.0 needs this to function properly.

I've been reading this from MS, where they say that only XP and server 2003 needs it, I don't see any mention of Vista.

Note To install Windows Search 4.0 successfully on a computer that is running Windows XP or Windows Server 2003, Terminal Services must be running on the computer. Also, Terminal Services must be running for Windows Search 4.0 to function correctly. By default, Terminal Services is configured to start automatically. However, it may have been disabled manually or by third-party software. If Terminal Services is disabled, the installation of Windows Search 4.0 will fail with error code 643.

I would love to read your thoughts/conclusions on this?
Though I don't use windows search 4.0, but I'm very curious...

I read the first part of the quote as only applying to XP or Server 2003. Meaning, to install it on those systems, TS must be running. In order to use Search 4.0, TS needs to be running on all supported OS's, including XP/2003/Vista.
I could have read too far into it, but that is my take, at least.

Thank you, I'm not an English native, but now that you point me out in the right direction I have to agree that it is probably the right way to read it.
I'll do some research and testing when I have time, not to prove you wrong (you are a guru to my eyes but just to see what doesn't work when the service is disabled.

OK, I give it a try and installed it with TS disabled in Vista, no problems with installation and it seems to function properly. In Vista it install has a part of windows search.

In XP it is not the same story because it seems to install like an add on and not like a part of windows, and yes in this case you need to unable TS for Search to install and function.
