Separate service profiles??
« on: August 08, 2008, 01:18:31 PM »
hello

i have a pc running vista 64x ultimate (no sp1) with 2 user accounts.
my main account is named XPC and my other one is named GAMES.both accounts are administrative type.
i would like to disable some services only for my GAMES account.so when i run the games account, the services will be disabled, but they will load normally when i run my main xpc account.

now i have read black viper's guide for configuring the services in vista, and i have googled other guides in the web.but none of them explain clearly how to create diferrent service profiles for different accounts.

accordin to the guides, when u disable a service,u r supposed to go to the <log on> tab of its properties tab,and from there u choose another hardware profile from the default.but in my tab, there is no other hardware profile.only one named <undocked>.
so i tried something else. when disabling the services,i selected on their <log on> tab,to use the account: .\GAMES.
but again, when i start vista, the services are disabled both in the main xpc account and in the games account.

so how can i have  the services enabled to one use account, but disabled to the other? what i am doing wrong?
thanx for any kind of help

Assuming that Vista works the same as XP, a dangerous assumption I know, even though you didn't find another hardware profile, you can create one.  In your case it would be easiest to copy your existing hardware profile to a new one named Games.  Then disable the services you want to disable for your Games profile using the log on tab.  With multiple hardware profiles, you will have the option to display the various hardware profiles as log on options with a programmable countdown timer.  Now the hardware profile log on option is a separate log on option from your account log on option.  You will be presented both options.  If I remember right, first you will be able to pick which hardware profile to use, then later in the log on process you pick which account to use.  It's not quite as simple as you would like but it works.  If there is a way to tie a hardware profile to an account, I'm not aware of it, but there might be.  Anyone else know?

Cheers and Regards.
