Service that can screw up right-clicking
« on: November 26, 2008, 06:29:03 PM »
Hi
Whenever I right click on any desktop icon (desktop itself works ok), the system takes forever ("never" as I don't wait that long) to respond. Only the hourglass showed up; the mouse still can be maneuvered. But doing anything else after that (eg. clicking Start) will hang the system.

I can restore the system by logging off or switching user. And if I do that several times, the right click functionality can be restored. But that is by trial and error.

Could this problem be related to any Vista service?

Thanks!
J

I don't think it is a service related issue.  Run system file checker.  Open a command prompt and type SFC /SCANNOW then press enter.  Reboot.

This is usually caused by a bad context menu handler. Try using ShellExView to disable shell extensions until you find the one causing you the slow down issues.
