Hello,
I am running Vista Ultimate SP1 and can't get the ICS service to stay on, as I am trying to share this computers internet connection with my Xbox360 to get on live.

Needles to say, when I go to Network & sharing center > status (of the wireless) >  properties > sharing, and tick the "allow other users to connect through this computers internet connection" box, it tells me:

"An error occured while Internet Connection Sharing was being enabled.

(null)"

Starting the service manually yields this answer:

"The Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs."

(I get a very similar message when attempting to start the "Netlogon" service, but I think ICS is the one to sort out to get ICS to work)

I have trawled google for answers and have found what look to be answers for XP and Home Premium Vista whereby the firewall is combined with the ICS service. These answers have got me nowhere hence I've registered here to get some guidance on how to start the service, as all required services are running.

Thanks in advance

ICS is dependent on a number of other services too numerous to list. Go to the Dependency tab of ICS and verify that the other services are running.

i.e. I have checked to see if the dependant services were running, and they are, and I even got all of the services (except netlogon) running to rule this out, but still no luck.
I'm looking into "Turning Windows Features on or off" as I type.

Just to clarify:  You do have the ICS service set to automatic.  You do use Windows Firewall.  If both of these are true, then make sure that these ports are unblocked and available:  UDP 88, UDP 3074, TCP 3074.  Xbox will utilize them. If you use a different firewall go to Microsoft's website for help and they have some different options for you to consider.

Reboot.  Try again.  Hopefully, this will work for you.
