Bluetooth BthServ
« on: August 31, 2008, 10:26:10 AM »
I have noticed the bluetooth service is not listed in the Individual Services, not could I find anything speaking to this service.  I did perform a Google seach for this service and it came back as a Windows service and I found one place that said to disable it as it was a security hole.  Well I doubt it's a big security hole or I think it would have some bigger headlines accosiated with it.

My question: Is it safe to change this to a Manual or Disabled service?  Does something else have dependancies on it?

I have disabled it (Manual) in my setup and will see if it has any adverse effects.  And of course, I do not have any bluetooth devices on my computer.  I'm a wired man, not cordless.

If you have no Bluetooth devices, then disable it.

You can verify for yourself that no other service depends on the bluetooth service. In services, right click the bluetooth service, click properties, then click the Dependencies tab.  But as couttsj said, if you don't have any bluetooth devices, then disable the service.

Cheers and Regards.

It's been disabled (Manual) for a few days now and has not started so I'll leave it like that.  I'm certain there will be a time where I will add Bluetooth into the mix but not right now.
