video card hanging up
« on: December 30, 2007, 07:53:11 AM »
can some tell me why my [vid. card gforce 7600 512 mb] hangs up on me, when playing America's army. at times in the game i cant move. i notice it when in the power saver service set up. i keep nvidia display driver and , ntune sevices enable so can get to them if needed, is there another service that has to be enabled so don't hang. i use a key board and mouse to maneuver around the game.

I would start by updating to the newest version of the Nvidia driver. You could turn off the power saver before playing the game. I assume you mean the power saving options under display properties.

I'm not into gaming (programming only) so take my advice for what it's worth. The gurus in the services section could probably give you better advice when they are on the air  :)

Different versions of DX9 have given me headache more than once. For one of my models I had to return to an old DirectX version (august/september last year). Newer version of the viewer refused to show it. It happened when the number of polys grow over a certain size (not the old 64K limit of DirectX).

OK, so there maybe many other reasons....lol.  Are you playing online?  If so that adds even more possible reasons.  Usually, if your puter is hanging during an online game, it's due to loss of connection for a brief period.  Can you describe your problem a bit better?  Here's a short list of "could be" causes in my experience (in order of likelyhood):
-loss of connection to the server (try on someone else's connection - not the same isp)
-video card driver (update drivers and direct x to the latest)
-video card too slow or running in too high of a resolution (crank down the resolution, turn off anti aliasing and trilinear filtering...you can always change it back)
-sound card driver (update sound card drivers and set sound to default or software)
-heat issue (with processor or video card) - (make sure your computer is properly ventilated and in a cool room)
-rogue program eating up CPU time (more explanation necessary...try others first)

Also, check AA forums to see if others are having the same problem.  They may already have found a solution.  If these don't work, I'll be checking to see if you post again.

my first instincts too...could be your ping and not your graphics card?
