Biometric Authentication Service?
« on: February 08, 2010, 07:39:59 PM »
Hi, I'm new to this sort of thing but I'm trying to learn

Basically, I have an HP HDX laptop running windows 7 32 bit.  I use "digital persona" for my fingerprint reader.  Recently I was mucking about and it stopped working.  Ive tried uninstalling/reinstalling the driver for the sensor, and the program itself (latest version).  The driver installs fine, (I removed the driver, uninstalled the device, then reinstalled everything).  The "digital persona" seems to be installing fine when it get near the end, the progress bar reading "starting service"  this sits for some seconds and then gives me this message:

error 1920.Service biometric authentication service (DpHost) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient priviliges to start system services

I am logged on with administrator privileges, have tried right-clicking and selecting "run as administrator" and this message keeps coming up.  I tried to go into services.msc and start the service manually and it gives me another error saying basically:

"Windows could not start the biometric authentication service service on local computer

Error 1297: a privilige that the service requires to function properly does not exist in the service account configuration."

Can anyone help me to properly configure this service so it will start and i can install digital persona again?  I know this isnt world ending, but its important for me (also a good learning experience, lol!).  Hope to hear from someone soon.  Thanks!

Have you been changing any of the default services to manual or disabled?

I had Vista Services Optimizer change some things, but that was after the service already stopped working.  I had originally been fiddling with "object ownership" of some folders trying to delete a folder (dvd maker) that kept telling me I didn't have the privileges to delete it.  Somewhile after that I noticed that when booting up the computer "digital persona" appeared to be telling me it needed to be set up again, but didnt respond when I tried to re-enroll my finger prints.  So I uninstalled it and tried to reinstall.

Hope this helps

Just to verify that all the services settings are correct download the default values, merge them and reboot. http://www.blackviper.com/Windows_7/registry.htm

Then retry the installation.
