Comodo
« on: January 19, 2010, 07:25:53 AM »
I was wondering if anyone has an opinion on the Comodo firewall/anti-virus program. I have been using it and it seems to be OK, a bit of a pain when gaming, but i suppose that's to be expected. I have heard good things about the new Microsoft anti-virus and firewall. i am running windows 7 Pro, and would like to make the most of it, any help would be appreciated. Thanx

I have Win7 Ultimate 64/32bit. I use Comodo firewall and Avira antivirus. I think Comodo is rock solid. It is also light on resources.

I used the Comodo firewall on my laptop.  It was fine until I tried to get some Windows updates.  I had to uninstall (disabling didn't work) it in order to get them.  I use Avast antivirus and this firewall now:   http://www.pctools.com/firewall/   It's quite user friendly.  :)

Thanx for the input, I have uninstalled Comodo, from what I understand Microsoft's anti-virus is about as good as it gets. I'll have a look at Avast for the firewall, I guess not a major problem when you are behind a router firewall anyways.

I have been behind a router for yrs but no way would I go without a firewall.
Besides, a router does not block outgoing and you may find there are things going out
you don't want to.

Ok a couple of things, first thing Comodo Internet Suite is more applicable in this case. Do not just use the firewall you will still need an antivirus software. Another option is the use of BitDefender, or Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite...ZA is 50 bucks for a year and that license is good for three different computers. I have been using it for six years and had only one virus...(incidentally I released that one virus). Comodo will have a conflict with some of the Microsoft updates, most antivirus/firewall programs will. However, you do not have to uninstall the program every time. Just disable the firewall until the updates are completed and then re-enable it.

I have used Comodo on some of the laptops in my office and it is a little bit of a headache when you first install it because it asks you about twenty thousand questions. So take that into consideration also.

OH BTW-a free AV from MS.....HA that is like saying that their firewall is really good, it will not stop anything.

That's not necessarily true.  I disabled mine and was still unable to get some MS updates.  After searching online I found others with the same problem.  Uninstalling was the cure for me.  I'm not saying it's a bad firewall, it's just that I didn't want to have to uninstall each time it wouldn't allow updates.  :o

Yup, that's what happened to me with Comodo, so it is gone. I used Zone Alarm years ago, and it was good, but then it started to be e pain in the a--, too many conflicts with other programs.

I found the same problems as the last two posters.

- software conflicts
- allows ms updates even when disabled in the policy

I disabled activex on my router which helped with the auto updates.

I've been using Vipre for a antivirus (which I found to be a fav when i first visited this site, which is why I purchased a license), and now I'm considering a few other options for security, ie. disk encryption and ipv6 tunneling.

Does Zone Alarm support ipv6?
