Is print spooler necessary when I have no priter? Win7 Home
« on: November 11, 2009, 01:22:17 PM »
I had print spooler off when I used XP but am unsure in my new Win 7 Home Premium.

  I don't use a printer.

I don't see it set to disabled or manual in Win7 tweaks.

Can I safely disable or set to manual?

I also use a screen magnifier and Win 7 won't run Aero with it,a driver issue with vid card,so can I also disable or set to manual any Aero related services.A bummer not being able to use any Aero but oh well.

BV can't have it disabled because these services guides are written for the general public. If it was disabled it would get ugly in a hurry with everyone pissed off or constant help questions because they can't use their printer anymore. I don't use a printer either and I have it disabled in Windows 7 without any known issues so far. I would say it is just as safe to disable in Windows 7 as it was in XP if you don't need to print.

If you do not use a printer, yes, it is safe, generally, to have the Print Spooler service disabled... with one issue:
If you use applications that use the subsystem of the printing aspect, you still need Print Spooler. The Fax service also comes to mind.
An example of this would be certain document "converters" of sorts that pipe data through the printing system to get a different output. One that I have come across is certain document to PDF converters. If this is not a problem, then, generally, yeah, it can be disabled. Just be aware that down the road, this could become an issue.
