How to re-allocate size to partioned drive
« on: November 09, 2009, 08:59:09 PM »
My C: drive is partitioned into:  Primary C: and
                                                 Logical Drive D:

What I want to learn is this: how do I transfer GB space from D: to C:
That is I want C: to be bigger and D: to be smaller.

Your directions appreciated.

This depends on whether you wish to keep the data or destroy on both drives.

D: can be deleted but would need to keep C: as it has OS etc.

BTW where do I select email notification in these post?

Depending on your OS, you can give EASUS Partition Master a look.

Before I check out EASUS - the OS is XP Pro. I can of course open Computer Management/ Disk Management then R click on the Partition or Drive and select 'Format' but this will delete everything. So my Q is really how to achieve this reallocation without wiping out the C: primary partition.

You can't repartition or format the active partition that Windows is on with Windows XP. You will need to use something like Partition Magic or such.

gparted is very good at resizing partitions, merges, etc. Just back up your data first.

Thank you all for yr input. Mission achieved. It took a little shifting about so I'll describe in case s/one else wants to increase a Partition.

I used easeus partition master (link above from Vampire Muffin Man).

Step 1. Decrease size of logical drive
"    2. Move new Unallocated space next to Primary Partition (so in my case the
order became C: /Unallocated/ D: ) It would not work when the order was
            C:/D:/Unallocated!
"    3. Then easus will allow the increase of C: It's clear in the window how to
             achieve this last step.

Glad that you got it all sorted out.  EASUS Partition Master is very similar to Norton Partition Magic in function and layout, but, it's free.  Which I find very appealing...
