Vista services
« on: October 19, 2009, 04:12:12 PM »
I have a services listing for both W2K and XP Pro that lists the services, what they do, and if it's safe to turn them off or not.  I have used it many times to "unload" some of the load on weaker PCs.  Is there such a document for Vista Ultimate?  Thanks.

I've looked on BV's Vista list of services, but I cannot figure out what this one is. It seems to be running all the time, according to MooO, whatever app I am running. What does it do please? UDP  svchost.exe
Does it just listen till I dl something, orfile share? Thx 8)

svchost.exe is a container that Microsoft uses to load library files (.dll) as services. There can be several of them running, and each one can host a number of different services. To get an idea, go to the command prompt and enter "tasklist /svc".
