Man, I suck - I'm the only one stuck with dialup and not even 53.3 - a lousy 31.2

I live in the hills and it is dialup or satellite and I'm not sold on satellite just yet, the fair use policy
is a joke - JMO   :-\

$12 a month unlimited dial up.

An aircard is $60 a month for 2 years with a 5 gig limit.  Heck, I can do 1 gig a month with just updates by themselves.  Fast, but way Overpriced.

DSL Verizon (this area) says maybe in 4 years.

Cable   Cox says not for at least a decade, then if..

Satellite  Based on the performance of my GPSs, Iridium phone and Sat TV, it won;t work during rain, snow or heavy cloud cover, but it costs as much as the aircard, so forget that.

11 down and 2.5 up on cable.  Way more than I need for anything I do.  Maybe I should downgrade my service!

DSL. 1.5Mbps down/384Kbps up. Not the fastest, but the price and speed fit me.

Really, 99% of the time that would be enough for me.  It's only when I download 10GB games that I need faster than I have.  Also, hosting certain games is feasible with 1mbps upstream.  Other than that, we hardly EVERY use the full bandwidth, which is why I leave my wireless open for others to use.  :)

VDSL -- fiber-to-the-node service w/TV and VoIP.  Internet portion is 6Mb down and 1Mb up.  Very happy with it, though I'm considering upgrading to 10Mb down/1.5Mb up for the improved upload -- watching my Hava remotely is sometimes challenging.

I have Time Warners 15/2 connection. My actual speeds according to Speedtest are roughly 20-30 megs down and always rock solid 1.7 up. Im very satisfied with this part of my service and hate that im so satisfied with it because I cant stand Time Warner. The hassles I went through after the Adelphia takeover were just unreal. Then the things they have done with my cable lineup were unforgivable ( NFL Network Eliminated among others ). Oh and the DVR box is a peice of junk and really has no place in the entertainment center with the rest of my "high end" goods. This year I resolve to free myself of one evil for another. Verizon here I come I want Fiber to the home. Im a gamer and I need more upload!!!!

WHEN ARE WE GOING TO GET SOME REAL UPLOAD!!!???

I have Cox cable for me, and also DSL as a backup at home. The cable is the one I play on first, even if the DSL is a decent speed connection.

I can do speedchecks and post.

I really only find that this is important when downloading games or drivers.  Do you do things that really require more than 3 mbit RB2tfm?

When one gets used to a certain speed, going back down to a lower speed really sucks regardless what you're doing.  :P

Just installed new router Linskys WRT160N. On New Toshiba P505-S8980 which is set for the "N" and it is on the wireless side of the router and speedtest gave it a 25.13 Mb/s Down and .96Mb/s on upload.  The desktop which is wired through the router got 19.13 Mb/s down and .96 Mb/s up. The router is capable of up to 300 I think this is wireless that you when you look at the speed when you look at Wireless Network Status. My laptop reads 72.oMb/s.
I like the longer range of the wireless "N" as the router is in the basement under steel beams holding the upper floors over the basement. My wife's computer is at the other end of house on ground floor level with My laptop anywhere.  My desktop is only 20 feet or so from routerand is hardwired.  Sorry to drag on.

Verizon finally provided slow DSL to some of us in rural Southern Illinois last year.  I got connected at 1Mbps in June after many years of dialup.  My dialup at this location had been about 4KBps.  Mostly less.  So I am experiencing the internet as never before.  At about five times the price.

Oh my.  Senior moment.  Posted earlier.
