Vista Format
« on: October 08, 2009, 08:53:03 am »
I got a dos emulator to play old dos games. I mount my root directory and
saw folders that were created prior to my last installation of Vista which was on
9/29/2209.
I even see a folder with a creation date of created of 11/2/2006!
In the installation of Vista Basic I selected the Format option.

If Vista performed format my hd why do I see some folders with creation dates
prior
to my formatting my hard drive?

Thanks,
James

If you look in the root folder (usually, c:\) and you see:
"Documents and Settings" system link, it has a creation date of 11/2/2006. It is like that for everyone. :)

btw, the year I formatted isn't 2209 as you probably figured. If I was able to do time travel I wouldn't be much concerned with these creation dates.

I also found the sys files were dated earlier.
Why is this so?
So when Vista Formats a hd it removes everything?

Files that are just copied and pasted whole from the install disk to your hard drive will show the date that the file was created, not the date that it was copied.  I think if they are expanded from an archive they get the current date.
