Vista Task Scheduler
« on: August 31, 2009, 12:41:29 AM »
Hi

Regarding the Task Scheduler (All Programs>System Tools>Task Scheduler) in Windows Vista;

I looked at mine today and by default there are so many schedule tasks which I assume use up CPU processing power.  Out of interest to see what would happen I disabled them all.  The disk drive no longer seems to be active when idle (if that makes sense  ;D), but other than that I can't see anything bad happening by doing this.

What I am wondering is; have a caused any problem/harm by disabling all the default scheduled tasks?

Many thanks.  :)

Some of the background tasks such as the Performance Monitor don't work because it depends on the continuous logging performed by the Task Scheduler. But the Performance Analyzer works like a charm. Also, since the defragger now works in the background, it will also not function. But personally I have found neither of these functions all that useful, and disabling the Task Scheduler got rid of so many annoying quirks, that it was probably the single best system tweak that I did. This has been covered in this forum in the past, so let me know if you have trouble disabling it.

Hi Couttsj

Thanks for your input.  I have never experienced a problem by disabling all the scheduled tasks under task scheduler, so I am not too worried by it.  I thought I would mention it on here in case those who have The Knowledge can scream and shout warnings at me if I am doing something terrible.  :D
