Other services in XP Pro
« on: August 10, 2009, 10:13:29 am »
Win XP Pro SP3
Self-built 3 GHZ, 3 GB RAM
2-computer home network
AVG
Verizon DSL
Using BV's "Tweaked" profile
================================================

I just joined the forum after using BV's wonderful services list. I've cut my boot time considerably, considering that AVG is such a hog.

1--Is System Event Notification related to the Event log? Please explain.

2--Why is TCP/IP NETBIOS Helper disabled? Isn't this necessary for internet connections?

3--I just tried to stop REMOTE REGISTRY, and it's in a permanent state of "Stopping," with a message of "unable to stop." Will it stop with the next bootup?

4--Is Human interface necessary for keyboard shortcuts?

1: Yes and no. It tells other components and applications of the system when events occur.
2: No
3: Yes
4: What kind of shortcuts? If you are talking about CTRL+C or the like for copy and paste, no, it is not needed. If you are talking about "media" keys on a keyboard to "shortcut" application launch, then "maybe" depending on keyboard, drivers and hardware.
