Within the documentation for the Windows Firewall, it states that it should be disabled if using another software firewall.  But some article that I read said you can run both with no problem.

What information is correct for running on XP and Vista?

It's not required. It would be pointless though to have 2 firewalls in use. Almost any 3rd party firewall is better than the Windows firewall. If you're using a third party firewall then disable Windows firewall to avoid any issues that may arise such as loss of connection to the Internet.

No point in having two software firewalls on the same system. If one does not do the job you are looking for... find a different one. :)

which 3rd party software firewall do you gusy recommend?..
also..i'm behind a hardware firewall,and on some sites is reported that disabling windows firewall will releasea lot of cpu resources,which is good...what do you think?

btw...have you guys used this little app. "seconfigxp"
well i have a westell 327w.i use a custom setup for inbound and outbound from dslreports
in my hardware-firewall setup...
i just disable windows firewall and run secondfigxp...run test at shieldsup=all stealthed.
