Strange Service
« on: December 10, 2007, 04:35:26 AM »
Hello all....i'm new to the forum and when it comes to windows services, i'm totally lost. I was using this site to tweak my sevices and disable things i didn't need when i noticed a service called "RPQYQK". When i highlight it, no description shows up on the left like with other services...just the service name. When i right click on it and click on properties, under the general tab it just show display name and startup type (which i have it disabled right now)...nothing else. Under the Log on as tab, Local System Account is checked along with Allow service to interact with desktop...and in the hardware profile window, it's listed as profile 1 with the service enabled (thought i had it disabled). Under the recovery tab, all three failure windows say take no action and then reset fail count after 0 days. And finally under the dependencies tab, there are no dependencies listed. Anyone have any idea what this service may be or what it does? And is there a way to get rid of it if i have to? Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me.

Under usual circumstances, when a service is installed with a "seemingly random name" as the one that you describe, it is usually a virus or spyware. I would suggest scanning/cleaning your system.

thanks for the response Mr. Viper....but i have scanned it....many times..AVG antivirus..trend micro's online house call.....a few anti spyware programs....a-squared free...sophos anti-rootkit...registry booster 2....system mechanic 7.......advanced windows care....anything i could think of, i used it to scan my pc.....removed the things they found...fixed problems....ran the xp system file check and reinstalled some dll's that were deleted or changed...turned off system restore and got rid of all the restore points....ran CCleaner to get rid of everything on here...scanned the pc with all that stuff a few more times.....yet that service is still here.....it's got me puzzled.
