The x64 OS on my XP 32/64 bit has three services that will not start: Event Logger, Security Accounts Manager and Net Login. All of these services work fine in the XP32 OS. Here's what I have tried to date:
1) Drilling down through MyComputer to the Error Reporting window shows error reporting as enabled, and both Windows and Programs checked.
2) Deleting the existing logs had no impact on the problem. This was done by use of MOVEFILES and by deleting the x64 files while in the XP32 partition.
3) In Component Services, clicking the START button for Event Log generates the error message "Could not start the Event Log service on Local Computer. Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified." This is the same error for Security Accounts Manager and Net Login.
4) Trying to read the logs via the Event Viewer generates the error message "Unable to complete the operation on 'Application'. The interface is unknown." In the Event Viewer on the right pane, it says "There are no items to show in this view". This is true for all the logs.
5) The LogFIles and wben folders have full Adminstrator rights (can only log on to x64 as Adminstrator).
6) Rolling back to a previous restore point had no effect.
7) Doing a Repair Install of x64 had no effect other than wasting an hour of my time.
Any suggestions for items to check or diagnostics appreciated!!!!!
