admin services tweaks and wifi issue
« on: May 02, 2009, 09:18:39 pm »
gents,,,i have used bv's service tweaks on all my desktops. thanks, bv.

but i tried using those same tweaks on my laptop and ran into a problem.....even though my wifi was working fine the list of available networks did not populate, i had no network to choose. since i didn't want to do through the whole list of tweaks one-by-one, i just restored all the defaults instead.

can anyone tell me which specific tweaks caused the wireless to not show available networks so i can leave those alone when i change the services again?

thanks..........m
sony vaio tr3ap, xphome. this is an old laptop, maybe 7 or 8 yrs

Hey, I have a desktop using a wireless adapter; I have very little RAM and wanted to free up as much as possible, so I went with the "Bare Bones" setup.

Though my desktop works perfectly fine I ran into the same problem, after a few hours of messing with the service I found that you need both Wireless Zero Configeration and DHCP Client running for the computer to find any wireless connections.

I hope this helps. ;)

You only need DHCP Client if you are using that service to set your IP/Mask/Gateway/DNS, which for a laptop connecting to different networks is the most viable way to go. If you are only connecting to a single network, you can make those settings manually and do away with the DHCP Client service.
