Poll: Black or White web site colors?
« on: April 21, 2009, 10:51:45 AM »
Ever since I brought my domain online back in 1999, I have had the default color as a Black background with White text.

After "a few complaints," I made my color scheme "optional" with CSS style sheets and a tad bit of JavaScript that still exist as I type this. Even though I feel pretty strongly about my color choices, I feel the reader, not the webmaster, should have control over how they view a site.

I am in the process of updating the main web sites layout as well as have plans on changing the default colors of the forums when the new software is released, etc and I would like to pose this question:

What do you prefer?

Should I ditch the ol' Black color scheme and make a rainbow of color?
Stick with pen and paper publishing and make it White background/Black text?
Pick something somewhere in the middle?
Explain your choice and/or convince me of it. :)

BV EDIT: made a poll

Stay with whatcha got... Reasons?
1). Don't fix what ain't broke.
2). The colors work well and are quite readable.
3). Anything else just isn't you, and you are a large factor in why we love this site.

There is nothing wrong with the black background. You just have to be careful of the foreground colors you use with it. The current background correlates well with the name "Black Viper".

The forums are blue but could be changing to black soon, but this will be optional (the theme is not optional right now, so everyone is blue).

I like how everything looks currently. If you do implement the ability for the user to choose their own layout, I'd leave mine as the default, but still think it's a nice addition to the site.

I was hoping you were going to go with a black theme, this default blue looks crappy imo.

I have always preferred your default website colors of black and white.  I would be thrilled to have the forums that way.

Sheesh, I am a moron. :(

I would like to try the black and white.  My old eyes need options, however.  :)

I find blue a problem also.  And pastels.  Perhaps an age problem.  My background preference is a very light grey.

In all honesty, I created the black layout for two reasons...

One: well, cause I like black. :)

Two: I have created and edited the web site using Dreamweaver (after a horrible several rounds of FrontPage way back in the early 2000's) and I could never get "right" editing the site with a custom style sheet. Meaning, I publish the domain under one framework (white) and edit it in another (black). Why? Because staring and coding for (countless) hours on end is impossible for me on a plain white background. :)

OK, not impossible, but it sure hurts after awhile. :)
