wmiprvse.exe?
« on: March 24, 2009, 12:25:06 AM »
Hi everyone!  Before I start:  thank you for looking at my thread!

Okay, here's my question:  do you know what wmiprvse.exe is and whether or not I should prevent it from running?  If it's safe to prevent it from running, then I would like to know how to prevent it.  As some of you know, this service isn't running all the time;  it seems totally random.  So, another thing I would really like to know is why it's not always running.

I have been searching for the answer for a few months, and so I think I know what that answer might be, however, I'm asking here to see what you all say.

Thank you for your time, and again: thank you for looking at my thread!

Yes, I know what it is:

And should you stop it from running?
I have had it always disabled with no side effects.

WMI Performance Adapter is already set to Disable, so I'd like to make absolutely sure for myself as to what this is.  I mean, when it's running, there are no additional services started, not even WMI Performance Adapter; it's remains Disabled.  Furthermore, there are always 21 services Started in Services.msc with or without seeing wmiprvse running using the Task Manager.

Here's a screenshot of the Task Manager in my system with wmiprvse.exe at the top of the list:

By the way, thank you for replying, BV.  But much more than that, thank you for posting all the ways to streamline and tweak XP SP2.  I don't think I've ever been such a happy user before. ;D hehe

I have not installed my VM's for XP as of yet.
I hope to nail this down soon.
