HP C7180
« on: March 04, 2009, 08:57:05 AM »
Looks as though normal functionality works with Vista drivers while installing them using compatibility mode. I have not tried all available functions, however.

HP Update does not work as it detects Windows 7 and claims no updates are available (even though I know some exist).

As of this writing, the 32-bit Vista drivers for the C7180 do not work completely on W7 (HP update crashes) and W7 drivers are not released yet.

I would just disable HP Update myself.

I do not use it anyway, but I want to ensure everything is working (if that is not, what else?) before taking off my XP install.
Actually, in Vista 64-bit, it would run the update, see updates, download, fail and quit.
After 2 years give or take, they finally fixed it (maybe, the latest is not installed as what I use is working), so I am not really enthusiastic about W7 drivers coming. :P

I decided to manually run it this time on the laptop (on W7, it would crash coming out of standby and hibernate, so it would never actually run).
V5.2 of HP Update has "Win 7 compatibility and minor big fixes".
We shall see if this does anything.

Since the W7 laptop flagged HP Update 5.2, I decided to update to the latest drivers dated 07-2009 for my Vista system (previously, it was 03-2007...the "next to latest" version).

Installed fine. Manually ran Hp Update and what do ya know... it downloaded the v5.2, update, restarted and now it is updating the rest of the products. This is the first time it has ever worked on Vista for me across a few different computers.

Grats to HP for spending 2 years on a functional automatic update. With the 03-2007 dated Vista drivers, it never worked and would never update anything and no HP Update download was available to fix it, either.
