X-Fi Fata1ity and Windows 7
« on: January 13, 2009, 02:16:31 PM »
Windows 7 did not install and fire up with sound using a X-Fi Fata1ity.

Using recommendations by "kcmc20" at the following location:
http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=soundblaster&thread.id=134821&page=3

I downloaded and installed the latest drivers:
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi series Driver 2.18.0008
and
Creative Console Launcher 2.60.35

After downloading, I right clicked and selected "Properties" on both files.
In the "Compatibility" tab, check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select "Windows Vista". I also checked "Run this program as an administrator".

I installed the Console first, rebooted, then the X-fi driver, rebooted, and I was greeted with sound. :)

You should also head to:
Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Audio Control Panel (32-bit) > Speakers tab > Change to your particular setup.

Hope this helps someone.

Yes, I used Skype yesterday evening and it worked fine. I do recall, however, changing the default input device in the sounds control panel in Windows 7 to use the "Microphone" and not "Line in/Mic 2" as it seemed to default to for me.

Try open Creatives "mixer", then press settings and choose "michrophone" instead of "line in", might be the solution to get microphone working.
I have to do it that way with my X-fi Titanium to get the microphone to work.

Great info BV.  Always like to hear success stories as well as failures.  Too bad I'm usually on the failure end of things :P

BTW, Happy Easter everyone.

From what I tested, all works well with Windows 7 (and faster), but I wandered back to Vista, for now.

Windows 7 solved an issue that I had with my Microphone.  For some reason in Windows XP I could not select the front port as my microphone, no matter what I did.  So when entering a game, I'd have to click through a bunch of menus and check a box to enable the front microphone port.

For some reason, some games would reset this after every map change and I'd have to alt+tab and check the box again.  Very frustrating.  I finally quit using the front ports after I could not find a valid solution.

Now it works flawlessly as it should.  Woop!  Go W7!  :)
