What origin I am is a little difficult.
Born in Germany on British territory.
Moving then to england and back to germany several times.
Then moving to scotland and back to england then to scotland and then germany and back to scotland.
But currently living in scotland "LOL" (A little bit of a mess that is)

For some reason I don't think I would blend in very well in the USA.
Haven't you seen some of my posts and their replies.
Thanks for being nice anyway.
And its alway nice to know a little about each other.
Make typing in forums a less sterile environment, don't you think ?

There is no intimidation?it?s annoyance.  I don't feel too bad about berating someone when they say something rude. It's a public forum, and people should at least have the grace to think through what they type.  Okay, so English is not your native tongue. Here is my argument for 16 bit....just for fun. LOL.

So, the archaic interface of DOS was incredible.  It made me feel like a total geek, because of all of the commands I had to know.  There was no "double click" of the mouse.  There was no picturesque icons to provide detail about a program.

The memory maker, bat files, and black screen.  The monster 14" CRT, physical jumpers, and fast page mode ram.  Oh how it reeked of geekdom. 

Then win 3.1 came along and changed things somewhat.  It was all getting easier.  I thought to myself, "everyone will be able to do this".  I won't be special anymore!  Computers will become commonplace!  I am losing my first love and elitist attitude to the masses!

Sure, there weren't discrete video cards, 3d apps, and mmx enabled gaming.  Sure, a joystick operated in four directions and only had one button.  Of course, mice only had 2 buttons, one of which was useless. 

But who can deny that knowing dos is STILL fun to open in front of an end user so they can ooh and ahhh at your geekiness (in wonder of what exactly you are doing through this stone age interface). 

So that's why I think we should stick with 16 bit, baby!  All the way!  Make it harder again!  The greater populace at my mercy again.  All so I can feel like a whole man.

New to the forums, but bring a lot of experience as I run my own computer repair business in a small community in the deep Interior Bush of Alaska.  The 64-bit operating system is the future.  Just watch out when all of a sudden, the experts start talking about 128-bit OS, then I would start to get worried ... ;D

The only thing that would scare me is if they try to sell me a PC
with an 80x88 CPU and make me access it in 8 bit chunks like
with my XT clone!!  I can't believe I actually paid 1 1/2 times
more for that 7.16 Mhz speed demon than for my AMD duo core
machine!!!  What a bargain!! :)

I havent even used a 64 bit OS yet. I own 3 copies of XP pro 32 bit. I was hoping to make the switch to Vista on atleast one of my computers in a 64 bit but I dont own one capable of running yet. Theirs a build in the near future though so who knows.

I JUST BUILT A NEW SYSTEM AND INSTALLED XP 32 BIT TO MAKE SURE ALL THE HARDWARE WAS GOING TO ACT CORRECTLY AND NOTHING WAS DAMAGED IN SHIPPING OR ASSEMBLY.  NOW THAT I HAVE ALL THE BUGS SORTED OUT WITH THE NEW HARDWARE LEARNING PROCESS I'M GOING TO INSTALL 64 BIT VISTA SINCE I NOW KNOW THAT I CAN GET DRIVERS FOR ALL MY HARDWARE. IF I HADN'T BUILT A NEW SYSTEM I PROBABLY WOULD NOT CONSIDER USING 64 BIT SINCE THE PERFORMANCE GAINS AND PRETTINESS OF VISTA WOULDN'T BE WORTH THE HASSLE.... JUST MY 2 CENTS...

new rig>>Athlon 64X2 6400+-- Patriot Extreme 4 gig pc6400---8800GTSG80----Asus MOBO M2N deluxe PCIX----installed my old XP home 32 bit---rig builder tried to get me to buy VISTA 64--which I have in my laptop---after reading several forums on the plus'es of 64 XP or VISTA I just bought the builders VISTA 64 for the little added performance---10% they say---also in a year or so will upgrade VID card to the 8800GTX when price comes down from the rafters---BTW have  been using BV's site for couple years now and keep up the great work dude---Two
