need advice to setup services
« on: August 28, 2008, 06:12:17 AM »
Hi all,
i am new to this and i am building a PC which has less services running.

I Intend to use this machine for my photographic work only.

PC Config :
Phenom 9550 Quad Core
Asus board
4 x 2gb dual channel 800mhz ram
Disk 1 = Sata 300gb 8mb cache (just for OS)
Disk 2 = Western Digital VelocityRaptor 10k rpm 300gb (For Temp space & Pagefile of software) and partition for some data
Disk 3 = Sata 300gb 32mb cache (Data)
Ge Force 8600 1gb PCIe Express Card

Windows XP Pro 64bit
PTGui 64bit (Panorama Stitching Software).

the software needs three phase
1. processor memory for initial phase
2. disk I/O for maximum stitching time ( using 20gb to 30gb temp reading writing)
3. again final stage processor and memory

My Question is Will the BareBone tweak work with this steup as i dont intend to use any internet services.

I will just need network file sharing and this software usage + little photoshop work done on this machine to check output.
rest my design people will work on their own machine.

This machine is solely built for just stitching which may take atleast 1hour for one panorama to be build.

Please guide me what should i do to use maximum power output of this machine.

In general, bare bones would work fine for what use you have stated. However, understand that even the default XP x64 SP2 services use about 100MB of memory, but can be reduced down to around 50MBish... barely scratching the surface of 8GB.

This will work. http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm

Yes you do. Most newer XP software requires at least SP1 or SP2 to install and run. Since it's a new build, I would consider installing SP3 for Windows XP.
