On my one year old HP Pavilion 3023 (1/3 size stack), within minutes after logging in on windows vista the mouse and keyboard will freeze, no input apparently. The motherboard was replaced about 6 months ago under warranty. Had a heckava time getting to the mouse section in control panel but it said the mouse is operating properly. Using a wireless mouse, tried a wired (both PS2 types), same deal. Then tried the USB wireless I got to use with the laptop I got (that I'm using now), seemed to work for a short while then same stoppages occurred.
The mouse pointer will move for about 1-2 seconds, sometimes less, then freeze for 15 seconds or more before allowing movement again, only to freeze within seconds.
When this acted up enough to bother me I went to full recovery right away using factory recovery disks I got during the motherboard problem. THAT acted up for a while but finally worked this morning. Windows does allow me to start up in SAFE mode and that works fine with the original mouse. I did put fresh batteries in the original mouse. ANY clues on how to proceed? I have to check my papers, I think it's out of one year warranty. It was last selling for $450 so HP repair pricing or going via a store like Staples would cost the same as a new PC!
